Couponing 101: Organization

I started couponing a few months ago and I have become addicted to it!  It is pretty easy to do and you can save a ton of money (as long as your kids don't find your stockpiles....).

I am in no way an expert at couponing, but I do know a few tricks and learn more each day.

The first thing that you have to do is get organized.  The best way that I found for me is to use a 3-ring binder with those plastic baseball card inserts.  You can find the baseball card inserts at Walmart for around $4.00 and I think there were approximately 40 sheets in one.

The second thing you need to do is organize your 3-ring binder.  I added divider pages with each section labeled.  I organize the pages by the aisles at Kroger, because that is the store that I go to often and I like the way they have things set up.  Then at the end I have a section for restaurants, retail and rebates.

I clip all my coupons each Sunday and put them in the binder.  Some people don't and they put the date on the insert and clip coupons as needed.  I tried that at first and it is too time consuming for me.  I think you have to search to much to find the coupon and you are always flipping through those dang inserts, but each person is different so you will just need to find the one that's right for you.

Another thing you want to do is get more than one newspaper.  I thought people were crazy at first when I heard this, but believe me when something goes on sale and you have four or five coupons you can do a nice little stockpile (something I also said I wasn't going to do when I first started, but it is worth it!).  I only purchase one paper and I get my other coupon inserts from my dad, father-in-law and neighbor.  I would like to find at least two more people to get them from.  So if you are reading this and don't use your coupons let me know!  I would love to have them.

There are so many great couponing blogs out there.  I tried to sort through about four or five of them to find the best deals each week.  I am hoping that I can help you sort through them too so we don't spend so much time trying to save money.

I am also hoping that I can get organized enough that each week I can go through the coupons and sale ads and give you what I think are the best deals for the week.  I am going to figure out how to post pictures too so I can show you my binder and other ideas as I come across them.

This is a work in progress, so I hope you keep coming back.  I plan on throwing in a few recipes and diet and exercise tips too!

Until next time........
