In 1996/97 I decided to do something about my weight. I started running/exercising and also watched what I ate. The weight started falling off! I went from the 150's to below 120 in about four months. I also went from a size 14 to a size 4! It was awesome!! Of course, some people said I was losing too much weight! What? Losing too much weight? Was that even possible? OK, maybe I became a little obsessed....
2001 was not a good year for me. I had surgery. I had a stroke. The company I worked for went bankrupt and I lost my job! Whew! What a year! I also started to put on a few pounds. Not a lot so I wasn't that worried.
Between 2001 and 2004 I put on about 15 pounds. No problem. I'll just start running and exercising again. Losing weight when you are in your 30's is a lot easier to do than when you are in your 40's. The weight wasn't coming off, but I wasn't gaining any either.
In 2009 the facility that I worked at was shut down because of the budget and I was transferred to our Central Office. I started eating out almost every day and by 2010, when mom fell, I stopped exercising.
I have gained over 30 pounds since 2009 and it just keeps going up. Now that I am in my 50's it seems to be even harder to lose and it's also harder to find the time and energy to exercise. That's where Diet Bet comes in. Diet Bet is a 4 week social dieting game. The cost is $20 and I have 28 days to lose 4% of my weight. The pot is at $18, 940.00 and will be split among those that lose 4% or more of their beginning weight.
The standard weigh-in process involves submitting two photos, one of you on a scale in airport security attire (t-shirt and shorts) and another of the scale's readout with your weigh-in word (this is a word that they email to you). How do they prevent cheating? They have a photo review process in which players submit proof of their initial and final weights to a team of Referees. They also have algorithms that detect unusual activity within a game or across games and use an auditing system where some players may be required to submit extra proof of their weight loss using a video weigh-in. If a player is flagged for unusual weight loss behavior, they will have to submit a video weigh-in for all games going forward until the flag has been removed by the DietBet Referees. This includes both initial and final weigh-ins.
A co-worker has joined also, so I'm hoping that with a diet partner it will be a little easier. We can keep each other motivated!
Here is my starting photo! ACK! I can't believe I am putting it on here for the world to see, but hoping that will motivate me even more!!!
And here is a picture of my starting weight:
As always, thanks for stopping by and spending.....
